Pedagogical Principles and Objectives

For me, the overarching goal of voice teaching should be help each singer develop his individual potential and acquire the skills he needs to meet the multifaceted demands of the music he will be singing.

Vocal technique is the invisible foundation of the art of singing. For that reason, it is imperative to focus on building this foundation step by step. A solid, reliable technique is the pathway to vocal freedom.

Every individual is unique. For this reason, acquiring a vocal technique is an extremely individual process, although based on generally applicable principles. It is my duty to gently guide the singer toward a continual process of self-awareness in order that he may acquire the practical knowledge and ability to pursue his art – independently of me, and enjoying the sound of his own voice.
